herpes gladiatorum

This is herpes infection contracted by wrestlers during competition and practice. It apparently spreads by direct contact from skin lesions on one wrestler to his opponent, and usually appears around the head and neck region (a common area for wrestling holds) and perhaps more often on the right side of the body (because most wrestlers are right handed).
