motion sickness

Motion sickness is a fairly common complaint in younger children. The first thing to remember about managing this malady is that the brain seems to get confused by signals from the vestibular (balance and equilibrium) organs of the ears if there is no corresponding visual input for orientation. Hence the first recommendation is to place your child up in the car seat so that she can see the horizon. This may help some. Dramamine® is an antihistamine drug available over the counter which is often helpful for trips; follow the directions on the label.
