olive

An "olive" is what you may hear a doctor mention in discussing a very young baby's vomiting. It is an overgrown ("hypertrophied") pyloric valve - the outflow valve of the stomach - and somebody is at least thinking about the diagnosis of pyloric stenosis. I have to admit I'm not very good at feeling them... I don't get as much practice as the surgeons.
