sacral dimple

A sacral dimple is a pit in the skin at the base of the spine. These pits are very common, and almost always harmless. However, in rare cases these dimples are an outward sign of internal problems. A sacral dimple is more likely to be significant if it is very deep, is larger than 0.5 mm, is positioned above the crease between the buttocks (gluteal crease), and especially so if it is associated with a tuft of hair or excessive redness around the dimple. Dimples that lie in the gluteal crease itself are almost always benign.
