solar urticaria

Solar urticaria is a quite rare form of hives that is triggered by sun exposure. Sun exposure produces typical whealing, redness and itching of hives within a couple of minutes of sun exposure. The condition tends to disappear spontaneously within a few years.

Solar urticaria is a different condition than photodermatitis, which is a reaction within the skin to ultraviolet radiation and other factors such as medications, plant materials, or certain illnesses such as lupus.
