uveitis

Uveitis is a serious inflammatory condition of the eye, in children often associated with juvenile inflammatory arthritis. Symptoms can include eye redness or pain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light (photophobia). However, early symptoms can be absent or missed. It can lead to blindness. Referral to an ophthalmologist should be made on an urgent basis, especially in children newly diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. Treatment involves topical or systemic steroids. The outcome in children for cases detected and treated early is usually good.
