PKU Test

The PKU test is a simple blood test we do in the nursery before discharge from the hospital, and again at 14 days of age. It checks for several potentially dangerous inherited conditions that are successfully treatable if discovered early enough. These include hypothyroidism and some other hormonal problems, and phenylketonuria (from which the test is named "PKU"). This test is required by all 50 states.

It's only a little heelprick and just takes a second.
